Woking, Surrey

Rear Extension

Welcome to Heathside, an Edwardian-era detached family home with historic features that resonate with the elegance of its era. Situated in the conservation area of Woking, Surrey, the house with five bedrooms and a sprawling south-facing garden, has abundant space for generous living.

Having already undergone a comprehensive refurbishment by the owners, the proposal includes a rear and side extension in an orangery style,  that seamlessly integrates with the existing layout.

The existing garage, tucked away at the rear and in need of attention, will be relocated to the front, optimising accessibility, and functionality. Rear to the relocated garage, a multifunctional space will be crafted, offering the flexibility to serve as a study, guest room, gym, or playroom, catering to the diverse needs of modern family life.

Drawing inspiration from the architectural essence of the main house, the rear extension is designed to harmonise with its surroundings while enhancing the connection to the garden beyond. The newly formed glazed doors and windows flood the interior with natural light, mirroring the grandeur of the existing windows adorning the main residence. A glazed roof light further illuminates the family room below.

The form and structure of the extension pay homage to the historic charm of Heathside while distinguishing itself as a contemporary addition. Our aim is to seamlessly blend the old with the new, preserving the integrity of the original architecture while embracing the opportunities presented by modern design.
